Ally Mosher turned down a place at university to write a book to help young women navigate their way through high school.
The 20-year-old is the co-author of The High School Survival Guide, which offers a young person's perspective on dealing with issues both in and out of the classroom.
Ms Mosher quit her $20,000 university scholarship and leadership program to write the book - following a life that suited her, over the traditional pathway.
The former high school captain felt there was a real need for the book.
She said in today's technological age, information could be found almost anywhere but was rarely trusted.
Ms Mosher felt there was a need for a single port of call for teenage girls, allowing them to gain knowledge through a trusted source.
