Australian author and artist Rosa Fedele releases her first in a series of illustrated novels, THE RED DOOR.
Fedele says of the suspense novel, "It's gripping, but at the same time endearing. The story is as much a mystery novel with an immigrant's tragedy woven into its centre, as a portrait of women who carry dark secrets but also persevere through the strength of friendship. But readers beware: it may cause some heartache - the characters are very relatable."
This haunting tale, set in 1983 in inner city Sydney, arouses and engages the reader, taking them on a roller coaster of emotional twists and turns.
"It began four years ago as I was strolling through Glebe in Sydney, admiring the old mansions, and I happened upon one house in particular. But it was more than a house; the magnificent old building riveted and mesmerised me and in the following weeks I was drawn back to the site over and over. The mansion is, even now, fronted by a brightly painted front door - a glossy facade - and I began to imagine what the door might mask and what it could have concealed over the last 150 years: nasty, shameful secrets, possibly a poor family's misfortune and tragedy, rotten crimes and heaven knows what other unholy messes ... and a story began to form. This book is the fulfilment of a dream, to interweave a story with pictures and draw the reader into my own slightly dark-edged, world."
