Shirley LaPlanche, born in New Zealand, is a passionate traveller, environmentalist and lover of life. After travelling the world for several years she landed in Australia to become an editor at The Australian newspaper and a contributing writer for The Bulletin and the Australian Tourist Commission (now Tourism Australia). The urge to travel again triggered a move to a successful freelance writing career specialising in travel, skiing, golf and a book on ecotourism.

Stepping Lightly on Australia – A Traveller’s Guide to Ecotourism was published by HarperCollins in Australasia and Globe Pequot Press in the USA.

Her debut novel, The Fatal Path, shows a darker side of this versatile writer who currently lives in Sydney, Australia.
