Beale Stainton

genres: memoir

Beale Stainton was born in 1984 in Gisborne, New Zealand. His ancestry is the story of early New Zealand itself, a blend of pioneering European gentlemen and highly esteemed Maori women. A deep fascination with the world beyond rural/small town New Zealand began at a young age. He describes his first love as "an Atlas and a set of Britannica Encyclopaedias, proudly displayed in the family lounge". His tribal affiliations are Te Whanau o Tuwhakairiora of Hicks Bay and Ngati Pahauwera of Mohaka. He currently lives in Australia and calls Coogee Beach home. From Behind the Machine is his first published novel.

From Behind the Machine is a bitter and beautiful love story told across intrepid travels to unknown places with unknown people. It is timeless, painful, compassionate, and, above all, it is a reminder of how we should all be living and loving - with honesty, bravery, curiosity ... and a good, strong coffee.
