A manual on the health system has smart advice
Almost 10 years ago, an anxious Kate Ryder was on the phone to her elderly father Ron in England, urging
him to get help for her mother Beryl who had bad stomach pains.
Stuck thousands of kilometres away in Sydney, Ms Ryder stressed the need to call an ambulance immediately,
despite a locum GP visiting the previous day and finding nothing untoward.
But her 86-year-old father did not want to offend the doctor or make a fuss, so instead of calling an ambulance Mr Ryder contacted the locum service again.
Sadly, it cost his wife her life.
