Barnaby Howarth

autobiography, memoir

Barnaby Howarth is a type 1 diabetic and stroke survivor (after being bashed in an alcohol fuelled gang attack). He is also an ex-AFL footballer for the Sydney Swans, an author, a film maker, has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and is a motivational speaker.

Barnaby was three quarters of the way through writing his autobiography in 2005 when he was bashed outside a nightclub in Sydney, had a stroke and was placed on life support. When he recovered, he finished writing his autobiography and had it self-published, but couldn't shake the feeling he'd let himself down. He didn't feel like he'd done his story justice, but now he's going to finish what he started and tell his story.

Type 1 diabetic and stroke survivor Barnaby Howarth was three-quarters of the way through writing his autobiography in 2005 when he had a stroke and was placed on life support after being bashed outside a nightclub in Sydney. He has teamed up with author Julie Lewthwaite to tell his story - that of a man who is proud to be living a "normal" life.
